About Steven Goss

I am a ceramic artist. I build organic, sculptural forms with coiled construction and pinched vessels to explore a personal vision of what I see and what I can imagine. I have chosen to stop designing buildings for others and now design for myself.  I have found in clay an ultimately limitless design medium.

My creative process begins on paper, where an idea is first developed and examined. When translated into clay, a dialogue begins: the clay reacts, it informs me as to its own 'thoughts' and challenges me to constantly reconsider my concepts as they evolve. For me, hand-building is an act of self-examination. By translating the ordinary through a highly personal lens, the physical process of making ultimately becomes a path toward self-awareness and insight.
